Four New Openings In Dublin
Foldable pizza, egg sandwiches, and a new neighbourhood restaurant for Rathgar. Here's what's new in Dublin...
South Paw, Temple Bar
From the guys at Coke Lane, South Paw is bringing 'pizza a portafoglio ' to Crown Alley in Temple Bar. They say it's the Naples way of "transforming a sit-down staple into grab & go street food", and basically just involves folding up their Neapolitan pizzas and adding some more sauce and cheese on top. There's cannoli too (three flavours) and organic soft drinks from Galvanina. They unofficially opened on St Patrick's Day, so the next time you're wandering around Temple Bar looking for something to eat on the go, you know where to head for.
Orwell Road, Rathgar
The owners of Charlotte Quay and Coppinger Row (RIP for now) announced at the weekend that their newest restaurant, Orwell Road, opens this Thursday in Rathgar. Leading the kitchen is Daniel Hannigan (ex-Mister S and the force behind the Food for Thought events), and the 24 seat, 'Modern Irish' restaurant will be focused on as much local and Irish produce as possible. Hannigan says his most exciting dishes so far are a Cais na Tire tortellini in burnt onion broth; lamb rump, asparagus and lamb belly caesar; and BBQ dry-aged turbot with smoked mussels and roe sauce. Orwell Road will open for dinner from Wednesday - Saturday, and lunch from Friday - Sunday, and bookings will be live on OpenTable in the next few days.
Mad Yolks, Smithfield
Mad Yolks started as a food truck in 2018, with brothers Hugh and Eoin O’Reilly slinging egg sandwiches at festivals and weekend markets. They've lived a nomadic life, popping up in various pubs, but opened their first permanent site on Smithfield Square two weeks ago. Expect brioche buns filled with scrambled and fried eggs, Applewood cheddar, streaky bacon and sriracha mayo, as well as halloumi fries, hash browns and 'carnage' nachos. See you at brunch.
Day n Night, Dublin 1
Day n Night opened last week looking like the city's newest health food spot, but serving up an extremely eclectic menu featuring ramen, open crab and caviar sandwiches, and a beef bulgogi breakfast. The owners have been working in Dublin hotels and restaurants for the past seven years, and wanted to open something that people would want to come to day and night - get it - and you can find them at 18 Great Denmark Street (parallel to Parnell Street) seven days a week from 08:00 - 22:00.
Coming soon...
- Nomo ramen are getting closer to opening with their (sold out) soft launch the first weekend in April
- Póg are coming to Clontarf. They're taking over the site that was former Fish and Meat Bone
- Remember the very short-lived Shelbourne Social? We hear the site is reopening in the next month or two with a UK-based celebrity chef at the helm
